During the Language Narrative phase, you will be introduced to a variety of texts, ideas, and skills (e.g., rhetorical reading, narrative writing, self-reflection, the social processes of writing, the politics of language and literacy). Among other smaller assignments, you will compose a personal written Language Narrative.
During the Language Analysis phase, you will analyze other writers’ language narratives for their linguistic features. You will not only delve in to see how authors do language and discuss linguistic features — accent, language attitudes, language mixing — but you will compare these features from different viewpoints.
During the Rhetorical Analysis phase, you will learn more about reading texts for what they do, summarizing texts, and analyzing texts for their rhetorical features. Among other small assignments, you will complete the third major writing assignment of our course, the Rhetorical Analysis Essay.
During the Researched Essay phase, you will practice loctating and evaluating sources, composing introductions and conclusions, synthesizing sources, crafting strong thesis statements, and integrating and citing sources. You will compose our third major writing assignment, the Researched Essay.
During the final phase — marked by the Digital Portfolio & Self-Reflection Essay — you will revise your major assignments, articulate and analyze your learning process and gained knowledge, practice formal reflection writing and editing, and prepare your final digital portfolio.
